PRESENTATION OF THE PROGRAMM EUROPEAN MODULE :

WINE ECONOMIE IN EUROPE

Europe countries become closer and closer to each other, and students and teachers of European universities need to know more about their partners in the European Union.

Sure, the best way to learn more about Europe is to jump over borders, studying abroad, realise a practice in a foreign company, participating in a research project in an other country...

But not all students can participate on the European mobility programs, or even when they do, this will be mobility in one or two countries. But now, we are 15 country's in the EU, and very soon, we will be 19 and more.

That's the reason why the European Union encourages programs of "virtual mobility" for European universities.

You said: "Virtual mobility ", what's that?

Nothing irrealist, but a very good idea: students stay at home in their university and teachers from Europe (but also teaching programs, materials, knowledge...) from European universities come to the students and help them to understand that we are producing, processing and selling food under common European rules, but in the same time, there is an enormous difference of climatic, social conditions and traditions, which made the enormous richness of our Europe.

One of the programs of "virtual mobility" is called EM (European Module): Universities of the European Union and of the accession candidates in central Europe elaborate together teaching modules or courses and they will be used for teaching in the different partner universities.

This is a very interested way to share experiences and methods of very different countries with an important number of partner universities.

So, universities of Spain, Italy, Romania, Slovenia, Czech republic, Hungary and France decided to work on a thematic which they have in common: Wine.

Wine is a very goo example of the European ambition: working under common CAP (Common Agricultural Policy) rules, but maintaining in the same time the local traditions and culture.

The question of our work was not a technical issue, but an economic issue.

The thematic of "Economics of wine in Europe" was divided in 13 Mini-modules (please find the list in the next page) about CAP, marketing, export, and so on.

These Mini-Modules are used in the partner Universities in the existing teaching programs but also in the new Master "Vintage", organised by 8 partner universities (for more information, see http://www.vintagemaster.com).

Other Universities are free to use this material if they indicate the sources.

Also, we produced a film about wine growing in the partner countries to show the students how different is wine production in Europe.

We were working 4 years at this program, and this was an additional work for all involved partners, but the efforts were rewarded:

"We can offer to our students an interesting program and help them to know more about Europe and, last not least, we learned to work together and we created new partnerships and friendships over Europe."

The end of this program will not be the end of our co-operation!
